With the hype of the New Year fading away, so are some of those New Year resolutions. You have wanted to get back into exercise in 2018, and are having a difficult time finding the motivation. That is okay!  Here are some ways to move forward with your goals.

Exercise and healthy living are more than simply accomplishing tasks, rather working towards goals and then maintaining success.

Establishing SMART Goals

It is time to start fresh and regain your focus. In making exercise goals, you want to make them SMART.

Specific– Asking yourself what specific goal you want to achieve sets a foundation for your success. It is more than simply saying “I want to be more healthy.”

It is better to say, I want to be able to run twice a week for 45 minutes in 4 months.  Setting a specific goal has a higher success rate.

Measurable– Next, how will you measure your progress in attaining your goal. Using running as your goal, maybe you will begin by running a total of 10 minutes each of your two days. You can then incrementally increase that number as you progress.  For example, a 5 minute increase every 2 weeks.

Attainable– Now is this goal attainable? Is the timeline you have set for yourself enough time? Giving yourself two weeks to comfortably run for 45 minutes twice a week is probably not attainable. However, giving yourself checkpoints and a longer timeline will set you up for the greatest success.

Realistic– Is your exercise goal a realistic one? You must not allow your weaknesses to define you. Rather play to your strengths. Be realistic with what your body can do and play to that!

Time– Finally, have you established your timeline? When would you like to reach your goal by? Date it, and work towards your target!

Be SMART and you will soon be on your way to attaining your goals, and establishing a healthy lifestyle for yourself.  Exercise is great for your body and your mind. With an exercise plan you can be better equipped to reach your goals!
